Literature provided by Bean Air Gmbh:
Bridge Monitoring is a critical application to ensure safety for people who cross. A bridge is in fact subject not only to excavations or soil handling provided by human activity, but also to water action(s) around pillars.
One of the main problems we had to face to develop this system was the presence of many nodes of measure with different measure point each; in case of wired systems, this involves the presence of many cables running aside the bridge.
In this case we have use different smart sensors from Beanair like accelerometers, temperature sensors and inclinometers, all connected to wireless interface.
Case Studies 1
In Great Mosque of Mecca, customer are concern and worried about crowd movement increased structural fragility by 6 millions of visitors every year and last year 2016 The General Authority for Statistics in Saudi Arabia said that Hajj has seen a total of 1,862,909 pilgrims.Futhermore, Saudi authorities wanted to prevent any kind of soil collapsing. They also had to face the problem of many nodes of measure with different measure point each; in case of wired systems, this involves the presence of many cables running aside the bridge with the increases risk of fault possibility and of noise introduction - thus degrading the sensor signal. A single datalogger solution as concentration point is deprecated.
In order to propose a good and accured monitoring solutions, we had to keep clear in mind the critical parameters for the whole monitoring system (sensors and interface);
- Precision (consistency), accuracy (correctness), resolution and absence of drift.
- Durability, low power consumption for long lasting unattended recordings.
- Ease of readings, for fast data interpretation and presentation
Beanair provides 3 different kind of wireless smart sensor dedicated for Structural Health Monitoring:

Case Studies 2
As a concrete example, Beanair WSN are running on several highway bridges in Canada. Customer requirement is to monitor several physical parameters at the same time: vibration, tilt, cracks, shocks and deformation. BeanAir was successful to deploy 300 wireless sensors on the same bridge, from wireless accelerometer with a high sampling rate (400Hz) to the wireless tiltmeter coming with a smooth accuracy (+/-0.1°).
BeanAir WSN comes with numerous customer benefits:
- Scalable and Flexible deployment
- Quick & guaranteed return on investment
- New value added services
- Time-synchronized WSN
- A mature energy harvesting solution
